In an interview with 'MMANews', Usman stated that Chimaev has not yet faced a top 10 player and, therefore, does not even deserve an opportunity for the welterweight belt. However, he says he will not object if the Swede's 'challenger' status is confirmed.
“Well, I mean, this guy hasn't even fought in the top 10. He hasn't even beaten anyone yet. So, I mean, Covington is still on the way. So I think there are still a few more fights he has to go through. But like I said, I love competing. When this fight comes along, I will be here to compete”, said Usman.
At the top of the welterweight division, Usman recently underwent surgery to correct a hand injury. There is still no confirmation on when the champion will return to action.
No retorno, um show.
