Lightweight prospect Bryce Mitchell says he wants to 'change course' and focus his energies outside of MMA

Bryce mitchell showed that an athlete has to be motivated to continue in an intense sport like MMA and brought another discussion about mental health in sport. The North American, who lost to Ilia Topuria No. UFC Las Vegas 66 last Saturday (17), questioned himself about his efforts and considered retiring. He is one of the great promises of the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg).

“I’m just feeling it. I think I regret it, you know? I just know I could have done better. I'm in so much pain that I don't think it's worth continuing. I want to stop MMA and I want to take advantage of every bit of the focus I spent every day on MMA, I want to put it into something else”, said Mitchell during the series'Thrill and the Agony', from ESPN.

Still on reflection, Bryce says he wants to 'spend energy' on something other than MMA. He still reveals anguish at not having to feel pain. He lost for the first time against Topuria, via submission in the second round.

“Everything is meant to be and I'm just going to move on with my life and take all the energy I spent on MMA, and I'm going to put it into something else. I think I will be extremely successful. That's why I'm just saying that I should retire after that guy before I go any further and move on with my life. I just don’t want to feel so much pain”, he concluded.

At 28, Bryce mitchell He is one of the main names for the future of lightweights (up to 70,3kg) and has not yet officially announced whether he will actually retire. The North American has 15 wins and one loss in his career, in addition to occupying 11th place in the rankings.
