Current PFL featherweight runner-up (up to 65,7kg), Bubba Jenkins started the 2023 season on the right foot by overcoming Chris Wade in the unanimous decision of the judges on the main card of PFL 1 2023. Even though he beat his rival in a dominant way, however, the North American was the target of criticism from the Brazilian heavyweight (up to 120,2kg) Fabricio Werdum, responsible for comments on the event in “Combate” for disrespectful movements against the opponent.
In the third round of the duel, while controlling the back of Chris Wade, Bubba Jenkins he provoked his rival by simulating the sexual act in a “sarrada”. The fighter's attitude drew negative attention from Fabricio Werdum, which he immediately criticized.

“This movement was unnecessary. It wasn't for that moment. There was no reason to do that. I think he abused his trust a little. I didn't like what he did. It wasn't cool. He was not respectful towards his opponent”, said the commentator.
Bubba Jenkins e Chris Wade have a history of rivalry. The two athletes faced each other in the semifinals of the 2021 tournament, with Wade coming out on top at the time. Two seasons later, the two met again, this time with an advantage for Jenkins.
The victory over Chris Wade secured three points from Bubba Jenkins in the opening round of the 2023 edition of the PFL featherweight tournament. The North American occupies second place in the competition, behind only current champion Brendan Laughnane, who knocked out Marlon moraes in the main fight, guaranteeing five points.
