Brazilian stumble. First Tupiniquim to climb into the Octagon UFC 287, held this Saturday (8), in Miami (USA), Jacqueline Amorim had a first round of gala, but ended up giving in to the compromise against Sam Hughes. A debutant in Ultimate, the man from Manaus bet big on jiu-jitsu, however, he allowed the North American to react, who won in a unanimous decision.
Former strawweight champion (up to 52,1kg) in the LFA, Amorim experienced an unprecedented situation. The challenge over the weekend marked the first setback in the athlete's professional MMA career.
Hanging in the company, Hughes entered the octagon under pressure for a positive result. Before facing Jaqueline, the American had accumulated four stumbles in six commitments in the organization.
From heaven to hell
The fight started with Amorim taking the initiative with two low kicks. The Brazilian tried to control the center of the octagon and appeared more aggressive. Jaqueline showed calm and relaxed in the fight, touching her opponent with jabs and clean rights to the face. With just over a minute, Amorim managed a takedown and soon reached his back. Hughes took guard and managed to stay on his feet. With two minutes gone, Jaqueline shortened the game and, once again, managed to take down the American. Halfway through the stage, the Brazilian reached the back again and secured the choke. Sam showed courage and managed to get out of position, but Jaqueline remained glued to his back. Amorim insisted on the choke, but Sam continued to resist. Manauara continued to dominate the confrontation and allowed her rival to get up. The stage ended with a beautiful overhand applied by Tupiniquim.
In the second stage, Hughes returned with a more aggressive stance. With a combination of crosses, the North American forced the Brazilian to go to the ground and take guard. Sam accepted the challenge and, on top, struck with ground and pound. With two minutes gone, the North American was still on top, but the Manauara showed calm below. Without much action, Sam opted to stay standing and the fighters started fighting. With the intention of using jiu-jitsu, Jaqueline once again lured her opponent into her guard on the ground. On top, Hughes scored with ground and pound and the Brazilian looked for an opening for a submission. In the final seconds, the Tupiniquim stood up and attempted a guillotine choke, but there was no more time.
The last round started with Sam closing the distance and betting on crosses. Amorim walked backwards and called his opponent back into his guard. Sam stood up and followed the striking strategy. The North American showed better physical condition, while the Tupiniquim showed signs of fatigue. With almost two minutes gone, Amorim once again called his rival to fight on the ground. Hughes accepted and hurt the Tupiniquim with ground and pound. Jaqueline continued to invest heavily in jiu-jitsu, but was at a disadvantage in terms of scoring. Towards the final minute, Hughes was more aggressive, while the Brazilian continued without moments of action. Almost in the final minute, Sam allowed Jaqueline to stand. The North American launched a front kick, which grazed the Tupiniquim's face. Amorim tried the grappling fight again, but the plan continued to fail. In the final seconds, the fighters began to engage in frank exchanges, with the advantage going to Hughes. Jaqueline tried the takedown, but there was no more time.
Open striking fight ends in devastating knockout
The second fight of the show was marked by the aggressiveness of its protagonists. In a match contested at featherweight (up to 65,7kg.), Steve Garcia got the better of the frank striking and drove the crowd crazy in the presentation against Shayilan Nuerdanbieke. After a busy first round, the fighter achieved victory with a hard knockout in the opening seconds of the second round.
With the victory, Garcia begins his first series of positive results in Ultimate. Now, the fighter has three triumphs in five challenges in the company.
Despite being surprised by the resistance, Shayilan Nuerdanbieke succumbed in front of the spectators. The setback ends the fighter's three-fight winning streak.
Ignacio Bahamondes cancels last-minute substitute
With an opponent scheduled at the last minute, Ignatius Bahamondes had a gala performance in the show. Before Trey Ogden, who took the place of the injured Nikolas Motta, the combatant had a dominant performance and had few scares during the 15 minutes of the fight. After three rounds, the Chilean was declared the winner with a unanimous decision.
The company's promise, Bahamondes expands the good moment in the organization. Now, the athlete has three positive results in a row.
Responsible for maintaining Ignacio's commitment to UFC 287, Ogden had his strategy thwarted by his opponent. Efficient in jiu-jitsu, the fighter ended up canceled and lost the second confrontation in three challenges in Ultimate.
