Antônio Pezão gives up on retirement, announces return to MMA and aims for rematch

With 11 consecutive defeats in martial arts, most of them by knockout, Brazilian heavyweight had hung up his gloves a week ago

the retirement of Antonio Pezão of martial arts was short-lived. Just a week after hanging up his gloves, the Brazilian heavyweight (up to 120,2kg) changed his mind and announced his return to competition.

The news was given by Antonio Pezão through publication on social media. According to the Brazilian heavyweight, the main motivation for returning to MMA was believing that the last defeat of his career, in a duel against Salim El Ouassaidi, would have been unfair. On that occasion, the Brazilian was defeated by unanimous decision from the judges in a fight valid for the 'Kingdom Fighting' event.

“Let's have a rematch, 'Kingdom Fighting'. I'm ready and I'm coming out of retirement to fight again because I know I didn't lose. Let’s do it”, wrote Pezão.

Adding MMA, kickboxing and boxing fights, Antonio Pezão He has had a streak of 11 defeats in his career, nine of which were by knockout. The Brazilian heavyweight's last victory came in 2015, when he was still working for Ultimate and knocked out Soa Palelei at UFC 190.

Professional since 2005, Antonio Pezão enjoyed his peak in the sport between 2010 and 2013. During this period, the Brazilian knocked out the Russian legend Fedor Emelianenko, in Strikeforce, and even challenged for the UFC belt after an epic victory over the Dutchman alistair overeem, but ended up stopping at the then champion Cain Velazquez.
