Sean Strickland became the new middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg.) by winning Israel adesanya by unanimous decision of the judges in the UFC 293, held this Saturday (9/9), in Sydney, Australia. The North American surprised the favorite and displayed a dominant performance, almost knocking out the Nigerian in the first round and maintaining the pressure in the remaining rounds. He is one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport.

Strickland, who was on a two-fight winning streak, took advantage of the opportunity to fight for the belt and established himself as the new owner of the middleweight throne. He reached 28 wins and five losses in his career, while Adesanya suffered his third setback in 27 fights.

Adesanya, who was looking for his sixth title defense in the category, was unable to impose his striking game and suffered from the powerful blows of Strickland, who showed a lot of confidence and aggression. The American took the distance, found the right and almost knocked out Adesanya, who felt it, took a knockdown and almost got knocked out. He was saved by the bell in the first round.
The former champion had good moments in the second and third rounds, landing kicks on Strickland's leg and waist, but it wasn't enough to reverse the score.
After the results were announced, Strickland celebrated wildly and thanked his team and fans for their support. He also praised Adesanya and said he is a great champion and a great fighter.
