Canadian rapper Drake, one of the biggest names in world music, suffered a huge financial loss when betting on the main fight of the UFC 293, held last Saturday (9/9), in Australia.
Drake bet US$500 (around R$2,5 million) on the Nigerian's victory Israel adesanya, who defended the middleweight belt against the challenger Sean Strickland. However, the result was favorable to the North American, who won by unanimous decision of the judges after dominating the five rounds of the dispute.

Drake showed his bet on his Instagram hours before the event, displaying a ticket with the odds of 1,84 for Adesanya to win.
If the champion had kept the title, the rapper would have pocketed US$920 (more than R$4,5 million). However, he had to suffer a loss of half a million dollars with the Strickland zebra.
Drake loses money on Adesanya
This wasn't the first time Drake bet big on Adesanya and failed. In November 2022, the rapper trusted US$2 million (more than R$10 million) in the Nigerian, who faced the Brazilian Alex Poatán by the UFC 281, in New York. At the time, Adesanya was knocked out in the fifth round by the former Glory champion, losing the middleweight belt for the first time.
Drake is known for his extravagant sports bets as well as his alleged “curse” which affects the sports stars he supports. Some examples are Serena Williams and Conor McGregor, who lost important competitions after receiving support from the rapper. YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul he also felt the effects of the “Drake curse” when he was defeated by Tommy Fury earlier this year.
