The newest addition to the Ultimate squad, Brazilian Julia Polastri highlighted an issue that to this day generates controversy in high-level sport. In an interview with 'Ag.Fight', the strawweight (up to 52,2kg) from Tupiniquim said that the use of psychology has been extremely important in her career, especially after being defeated in her first participation in the reality show 'Contender Series'.

“I don’t think Julia the athlete has changed much, but what has changed is Julia the person. I put myself more in my place, I saw and accepted everything I needed to improve, both in my professional and personal life. And this, together with my psychologist, made me experience surreal growth in my life. I think it turned me into a person who was really ready now. At that time I thought I was ready, but when I lost the fight and got home, I put my hand to my conscience and saw that I wasn't ready to be here at all. And with everything I grew up after that, in my mind, today I know that I still have a lot to learn, a lot to achieve and today I'm ready to start walking this path”, said Julia.
In addition to praising psychology as an allied tool for successful career performance, Julia also recommended that other athletes take the same attitude as her.
“I think it makes all the difference, and we started at the beginning of my professional career. She is Douglas's cousin, who is my head coach and also my husband, so it was an easier contact to have. And today I absolutely never let go of her. Because I understood that it is what shapes it inside (head), and inside it is what guides all this outside (body). So, if this here (head) is messed up, this here (body) won't work. When that switch turned on me, I became another athlete. So, for all athletes who don't yet have a psychologist, don't do this follow-up, do it. It’s one of the biggest investments we can make in our career”, concluded the fighter from Rio.
At 25 years old, Julia is a former strawweight champion (up to 52,2kg) of the LFA and the newest addition to the Ultimate squad. The Brazilian won her dream spot in the biggest MMA event in the world last week by submitting Paraguayan Patricia Alujas in the second round, on the reality show 'Contender Series'.
