Low blow or legal? Knockout sparks controversy at UFC Paris
September's controversies started early in Ultimate. In the first event of the year, in Paris, the knockout of William Gomis about Yanis Ghemmouri generated controversy.
In the third round of the duel valid for featherweight (up to 65,7kg), Yanis Ghemmouri accused a low blow of William Gomis. However, Loic Pora, referee of the fight, understood that the blow was legal and chose to end the fight, declaring the 'Jaguar' the winner by technical knockout and generating the revolt of the 'Desert Warrior'.
Referee doesn't notice, but 'VAR' catches three taps and changes fight result at UFC 293
The numbered event of the month also did not escape the list. This time, however, the controversy did not impact the winner of the fight, but rather the method.
Closing the preliminary card of UFC 293, Carlos Ulberg dominated Da Woon Jung for three rounds and was on his way to a comfortable victory in the judges' decision. After the last round ended, however, Herb Dean resorted to video and realized that the South Korean gave the 'three taps' for a rear naked choke from the New Zealander in the last second of the fight.
As a result, instead of winning the judges' decision, Carlos Ulberg was declared the winner by submission.

The second controversy on the list took place in the Night UFC and as one of those involved Daniel Miojo. Looking for his first victory in the organization, the Brazilian was caught by a triangle choke. Edgar Chairez. Believing that Miojo was 'blacked out', referee Chris Tognoni stopped the confrontation, declaring the Mexican's victory and causing the Chute Boxe pupil to revolt, who assured that he was conscious.
After a long wait and inconclusive consultations on the video of the fight, the fight between Daniel Miojo e Edgar Chairez ended without result and a rematch has already been scheduled for the 14th of October.
Candidate for 'Fight of the Year', belt fight ends in a draw after controversial score
The exciting rematch between Alexa grasso e Valentina Shevchenko, for the flyweight belt (up to 56,7kg), was also unaffected by the wave of controversies in September.
After five rounds of a strong candidate for the 'Fight of the Year' award, Valentina Shevchenko e Alexa grasso ended in a draw in the judges' decision and the Mexican kept the category belt.
The big controversy revolves around judge Michael Bell's scorecard, the only one to score the fifth round as a 10-8 for the champion, a decision that generated revolt and disbelief from a large part of the MMA community, including fans, commentators and even President Dana White.
