Flyweight veteran Tim Elliott lives up to favoritism and defeats rival at UFC Vegas 83

Called up at the last minute for a crucial duel in the division, Tim Elliott proved that there are levels and did not give Sumudaerji a chance during a confrontation in UFC Las Vegas 83. Former challenger for the flyweight belt (up to 56,7kg), the North American avoided risks and resorted to his flagship: jiu-jitsu. Still in the first round, the veteran applied katagatame and forced the referee to stop the duel.

Recovered from defeat to Muhammad Mokayev, Elliot defended his position as 10th in the category ranking and lived up to his favoritism, even having accepted a last-minute duel. After the triumph, the athlete avoided giving names for his next appearance, but was willing to quickly return to the octagon.

On the other hand, Sumudaerji suffered a second consecutive setback in the organization and missed out on the chance to enter the top 10 in the category. At 27 years old, the Chinese fighter was submitted for the sixth time in his career after failing to use his stand-up strategy.

With no time to waste, the veteran started the fight standing up, implying that he would venture into his opponent's best area. After a few blows, the American quickly changed his level and placed Sumudaerji on his back on the ground. A black belt in jiu-jitsu, Elliott reached a good position and applied a fair katagatame, forcing the referee to stop the fight after the Chinese showed no further signs of activity in the duel.
