Famous for his acidic and sometimes disrespectful provocations, Colby covington went beyond the limits and caused confusion with Leon edwards at the promotional press conference UFC 296. In a ceremony held on Thursday night (14), the challenger for the welterweight belt (up to 77,1 kg.) mocked the murder of the champion, shot dead when his rival was 14 years old, and provoked the fury of his rival .
“I'm going to take you to hell. Let’s say hello to your dad when we’re there,” Covington said.

Edwards' reaction upon hearing his opponent's speeches was immediate. The champion threw a bottle of water at his rival and started the chaos.

In the images (see below), it is possible to notice the change in the Englishman's mood. Visibly shaken, the athlete tried to get into trouble.
With quick action by local security, tempers were calmed and the ceremony continued. Afterwards, the athletes did the traditional face-off, which also had tones of tension.
No UFC 296, Covington seeks, for the third time, to wear the welterweight belt. In the first two attempts, the North American was frustrated by the then champion, Kamaru Usman.
Category leader since 2022 Leon wants to expand his legacy in the division. The Englishman is trying to achieve success in his second title defense.
