The light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) of the UFC, Alex Poatán, had no reason to celebrate last Saturday (20/01), in Toronto, Canada. The Brazilian, who was one of the coaches of Sean Strickland in the main fight of UFC 297, watched his pupil lose the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg.) to Dricus du Plessis, by split decision.

This was the third time that Poatan acted as a corner in a big UFC fight, and the third time that he was defeated. Before, he had already followed Anderson Silva, which lost to Israel adesanya, and Glover Teixeira, which was surpassed by Jamahal hill.

The Brazilian, who won the light heavyweight belt in November 2023, by knocking out Jiri Prochazka, has a relationship of friendship and rivalry with Strickland. The two have already faced each other in the octagon, with Alex winning quickly by knockout. However, after the confrontation, they strengthened their ties and trained together.

Alex Poatán, who has a record of nine wins and two losses in MMA, still has no set date for defending his light heavyweight belt. Possible challengers are Magomed Ankalayev e Jamahal hill.
