In between fights UFC 297, which took place last Saturday (20), former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) Frankie Edgar was named to the organization's Hall of Fame. In an interview after the show, the American said he did not expect the honor and highlighted his main qualities during the time he worked as a professional athlete.

“I had no idea, honestly. I definitely didn't expect that. Nobody warned me or anything. It was a big surprise. I'm like the common man. I'm not a big guy, I'm not the strongest, fastest guy, but I found a way to win with heart and determination. I always left it in there. That's probably what I want people to come away with. I never went into a fight thinking I was going to lose, because I prepared correctly and always put my 100% into every fight,” said Edgar.
A representative of Ultimate between 2007 and 2022, Edgar represented the elite in all categories in which he competed. Throughout his career in the company, the North American performed among lightweight, featherweight (up to 65,7kg) and bantamweight (up to 61,2kg) categories. The peak of Frankie's career came in 2010, when the fighter assumed the lightweight throne. To win the belt, the athlete went through the legendary B.J. Penn.
At featherweight, Edgar competed for the title on three occasions, two on a permanent basis and one on an interim basis. Three times, the North American ended up being beaten by José Aldo (twice) and Max Holloway.
