Tony Ferguson underwent surgery on his left knee after lose to English Paddy Pimblett No. UFC 296, held on December 16, 2023. The former UFC interim lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) said on his social networks that he suffered a tear in the medial collateral ligament (MCL) of his knee during training, two weeks before the Thanksgiving Day, which was celebrated on November 23 in the United States.
According to Ferguson, he hid the injury from everyone until after the fight, in which he was defeated by unanimous decision from the judges. 'El Cucuy', as he is known, said he trained with a lot of pain, but didn't want to give up the fight.

“F*** my knee during a training session. It was an MCL tear. I kept it to myself and left it behind until after the fight. I trained like no one else, but it hurts a lot. Three weeks before it was time to fight, I told some of my crew. Nothing has changed,” wrote the American on his official Instagram.
Ferguson said he had knee surgery last Thursday, a week after having surgery on his elbow and arm, also because of injuries. He did not give details about recovery time, but promised to return to training soon.
“I recently had my leg (my MCL) taken care of and had surgery last Thursday, a week after elbow/arm surgery (both arthroscopies),” he concluded.
