Victim of champion Leon Edwards in December, American justifies stumble in attempt to assume throne

Victim of Leon edwards in his third unsuccessful attempt to take over the welterweight throne (up to 77,1kg.), Colby covington justified the stumble against the current champion. In an interview with 'Submission Radio', the North American admitted to having broken his foot at the beginning of the challenge that represented the main fight of the UFC 296.

“I broke my foot at the beginning of the fight. Literally, on the top of the foot. The bone is called medial cuneiform. I had three fractures,” Covington said.

In addition to the statement, Colby made a point of showing an image of the x-ray allegedly taken after the confrontation. In the fight, the North American ended up being defeated by the judges' unanimous decision.

Featured in UFC 296, Covington was publicly criticized by Dana White, at the time, in a performance evaluation drawn up by the boss. According to the 'boss' of Ultimate, the North American, who hadn't competed for over a season, appeared slow and uncompetitive.
