The defeat for Khamzat Shimaev No. UFC 294 still bothers the Nigerian Kamaru Usman. “Give me two more rounds, it will be a totally different fight. I'm a championship fighter, I've been fighting championship fights for over five years. Accepting the fight with just nine days notice and fighting three rounds, I was taken by surprise with the pace of the fight. I started late,” Usman said.

No UFC 294, which took place in October 2023, Usman agreed to replace the Brazilian Paulo borrachinha with less than 10 days left until the event and took on the challenge of measuring strength with the star Khamzat Shimaev. Inside the octagon, the Nigerian felt he had little preparation time and was defeated by unanimous decision from the judges.

Still number one in the welterweight rankings, Kamaru still has no fight scheduled in Ultimate. At 36 years old, the Nigerian has a professional MMA record of 20 wins and just four losses, but is going through a delicate moment and is coming off three consecutive setbacks.
