Last weekend, the world of combat sports turned to ring, where Ryan Garcia surprised the audience, dominated Devin Haney and secured the victory by majority decision. The clash, held on Saturday (20), was valid for the WBC super-lightweight belt (up to 63,5kg).
But someone who also followed the fight closely, and with a bitter taste in his mouth, was the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) of the division. UFC, Israel adesanya. A personal friend of Haney, the Nigerian bet big on the boxer's victory by knockout, but saw his bet of US$20 (around R$104) turn to dust with Garcia's triumph.

Adesanya, confident in Haney's knockout power, bet heavily on his friend's victory. The promised reward was a profit of US$40,6 (about R$209). Fate, however, had other plans.
Garcia, in a dominant performance, knocked down his opponent three times and secured the victory, leaving Adesanya with a hole in his pocket and a lesson learned: in the world of betting, favoritism does not always guarantee the result.
Loss to Adesanya, but no belt
Although the defeat did not cost Devin Haney his belt – as Ryan Garcia did not reach the category limit at the official weigh-in – it marked a historic moment for the boxer.
For the first time in his professional career, the American was defeated, losing his unbeaten record. In its trajectory, there are now 31 positive results and one negative. Ryan, in turn, boasts a record of 31 triumphs and the only setback.
