On the way to third title defense in the lightweight category (up to 70,3kg.), Islam makhachev opened the game and commented on what he expects from Dustin poirier in a fight scheduled for June 1, at UFC 302. Confident in his abilities, the champion highlighted the advantage over his challenger's style and pointed out weaknesses to be exploited during the confrontation in Newark (USA).
“Dustin is a legend. He has more experience than anyone in this sport. But his problem is his style. Only one problem this guy has, his weakness in wrestling and grappling. I have the key to an easy fight. If I follow the strategy, I can beat him easily. My style and Khabib’s (Nurmagomedov) are the worst,” said Islam in an interview with TMZ Sports.
Despite his confidence, Makhachev said he was not underestimating Poirier's abilities.
“I’m not looking past Poirier. This guy is a legend, he can beat anyone. He has the best striking of anyone in my division. I prepare for the toughest fights,” he concluded.
