José Aldo explains tense confrontation with Jonathan Martinez before UFC 301

The former featherweight champion minimized what happened and said it was all just a way to 'spice up' the fight.

Jonathan martinez e José Aldo surprised the journalists present at the 'media day' by engaging in a tense stare, where both almost came to blows. After the fact, the former featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) minimized what happened and said that it was all just a trick to 'spice up' next Saturday's fight (04).

“I take it normally. He came at me. I didn't do anything, I just responded. It wasn't my view. For me, it's normal, it's part of it. The more you spice up the fight, the better, it sells better, everyone wants to watch, that's part of it. I think it’s great”, said Aldo.

Without fighting since August 2022, when he was defeated by Merab Dvalishvili, José Aldo returns to the Octagon for what could be his last fight wearing Ultimate gloves. A UFC athlete since 2011, the former featherweight champion won 13 victories and suffered seven defeats in the octagon of the largest MMA organization in the world.

Fourteenth in the bantamweight rankings, Martinez arrives packed to the UFC 301 with six consecutive victories. The American's last defeat in March 2021, when he was knocked out by davey grant. At 30 years old, 'Dragon' has an MMA record of 19 positive results and only four negative results.
