Islam makhachev e Dustin poirier are rivals in the fight for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg) that takes place in the main fight of the UFC 302, this Saturday (1). Despite the constant provocations that preceded the fight week, the champion assured that he had a lot of respect for the challenger.
In a video published on the official channel of Khabib Nurmagomedov on Youtube, Islam makhachev tore praises to Dustin poirier, stating that his rival is one of the great legends of MMA and a future member of the UFC Hall of Fame.

Islam makhachev has a great asset in preparing for the duel against Dustin poirier. Friend, mentor and coach of the champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov shared the Octagon with the North American in 2019.
“I think this fight will be beneficial for us to build a plan together. When Khabib was preparing to face him, we trained together and I participated in the discussion of the fight plan against Dustin. I don’t think the preparation and strategy for this fight will be very different, because we know Dustin’s strengths and weaknesses”, he concluded.
