Former title challenger and one of the most popular names in welterweight history (up to 77,1 kg), Nick Diaz has confirmed his return to the UFC octagon after almost three years of inactivity. At 40 years old, the veteran will face Brazilian Vicente Luque on the main card of UFC Abu Dhabi , on August 3, in the United Arab Emirates. The information was confirmed by Dana White through the UFC's social media on Wednesday (29).
With a career spanning approximately 23 years, Nick Diaz experienced his peak between 2008 and 2013, a period in which he won belts in EliteXC and Strikeforce and competed for the interim and undisputed UFC welterweight titles, but was ultimately defeated by Carlos Condit and Georges St-Pierre, respectively.

In 2015, Diaz was defeated by Anderson Silva in a fight that was later ruled a 'no contest' after the Brazilian tested positive for doping. Following this, the American remained out of competition for six years, returning in September 2021 with a loss to former champion Robbie Lawler.
On the other side, Vicente Luque occupies the 14th position in the welterweight rankings. The Brazilian is going through a delicate moment in the organization, with only one victory in his last four fights. In his last appearance, in March, the 'Silent Assassin' was knocked out by Joaquin Buckley.
