Just over a month ago, the MMA community was taken by surprise with the news of Nick Diaz to the octagon in a duel against the Brazilian Vincent Luque at UFC Abu Dhabi, which takes place on August 3, in the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The North American's main coach in his career, Cesar Gracie, was against the duel.

During a recent appearance on the 'Submission Radio' podcast, Cesar Gracie stated that he was not part of the preparation of Nate diaz for UFC Abu Dhabi and disapproved of his pupil's decision.

“I'm not really involved in this fight. I'll be honest with you, this wasn't my idea. It's not a fight I would have done. If I were advising Nick Diaz, I wouldn't tell him to do this fight. It's in Abu Dhabi. I wouldn't recommend fighting across the ocean at this point, especially against Luque who is a very tough guy. You know Nick is a tough guy, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me at this point in his career,” argued Gracie.

With over 20 years working in professional MMA, Nick Diaz he enjoyed his peak between 2008 and 2012, when he was Strikeforce champion and even challenged for the interim UFC belt. The North American was away from competitions between 2015 and 2021, when he returned with a forfeit defeat to Robbie Lawler and has not acted since. In Cesar Gracie's opinion, the way the veteran will present himself against Vincent Luque in August it is a big unknown.

“I was not part of his training for this fight. We talk every day, but I don't know what will happen, to be honest. I don't know what Nick is going to do. I know he lost a lot of weight and everything, but I don't see him training with other fighters. I don’t know what’s going to happen in this fight,” he concluded.

With Nick Diaz e Vincent Luque in the co-main fight, UFC Abu Dhabi takes place on August 3, at the Etihad Arena, in the United Arab Emirates and its main fight is the bantamweights (up to 61,2 kg) Cory Sandhagen e Umar Nurmagomedov.
