Just over four months after saving his family from a house fire and spending days in a medically induced coma due to smoke inhalation, Mark Coleman was hospitalized again, but for a different reason. The UFC heavyweight legend published a video from his hospital bed this Thursday (11) and revealed that he was hospitalized due to a septic hip infection, also known as septic arthritis.

“Back to the hospital. My hip is septically infected. They were going to do emergency surgery today, but I'm on blood thinners, so they have to wait until Monday. I'll be here over the weekend. Everything is going to be fine”, said the former fighter.

According to the 'MSD Manuals', infectious arthritis is an infection in the fluid and tissues of a joint, usually caused by bacteria and occasionally by viruses or fungi. It is a painful infection that, if not properly drained and surgically processed, can quickly worsen and cause a risk of death.

A member of the UFC Hall of Fame, Mark Coleman won two Ultimate tournament titles, in 1996, and was also the first heavyweight champion in the organization's history, in 1997.
