With the experience of those who have already been in the position, Chris Weidman praised the current middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) Dricus Du Plessis. In an interview with 'Cageside Press', the executioner of Anderson Silva praised the South African by stating that he is worthy of bearing the status of UFC champion.

"Dricus Du Plessis…there was a lot of doubt about this guy because he has such an unorthodox style and he looks tired most of the time, but he really proved himself to be a worthy champion. The fight with Adesanya is coming up, I'm super excited to see that. You have a striker who is much more traditionally polished, very athletic and has great technique, against a guy who advances, leaving his chin in the air. So it will be interesting to see how this marriage works out,” Weidman said.
After hitting Sean Strickland and win the middleweight belt last January, Dricu Du Plessis already has a date set for his first title defense. The South African will finally settle the score with his newest rival, the former category champion Israel adesanya, at UFC 305, card scheduled for August 17th, in Perth, Australia.
