One of the most experienced athletes on the Ultimate squad, the lightweight (up to 70,3kg) was heavily punished by Jean Silva, his rival on the UFC Denver main card. After suffering for more than two rounds with the Brazilian promise's striking, the American had to deal with a deep cut on his eyebrow, which forced the referee to stop the fight and declare the Brazilian's victory by technical knockout.
