Last week, the Ultimate released the captured audio through the microphones around the octagon during the fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov e Conor McGregor at UFC 229. What sports fans may not remember is the magnitude of the event held on October 06, 2018 and everything that surrounded the before and after of that historic card. Remember here at SUPER FIGHTS.

Newly crowned lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov would face, in his first title defense, the biggest commercial name in the history of Ultimate: the Irishman Conor McGregor. The 'Notório' had been away from the sport for around two years and, during this period, he was stripped of his lightweight reign, which was now commanded by the Russian.
During the fight week, when there was a lot of rivalry involved, the offenses went beyond the limits of the Octagon and even affected people personally. Conor even insulted Nurmagomedov's religion, who is Muslim, and, in a notable episode, even attacked a bus carrying Khabib with a wheelbarrow. On that occasion, an athlete ended up injured by flying glass.
Inside the octagon, Khabib's strategy was clear: avoid McGregor's high-level striking and get on his legs to execute his excellent grappling. Having the advantage in the confrontation, the Russian took the back of the 'Notório' in the third round and made the Irishman tap out to the delight of the public present at the T-Mobile Arena.
THE CONFUSION
Immediately after submitting McGregor, Khabib jumped over the cage and headed towards the Irishman's team, starting a widespread fight. Members of both teams began exchanging aggression in the middle of the Octagon, and also outside, and had to be restrained by police and T-Mobile security.
President of Ultimate, Dana White did not hide his displeasure at the press conference after the show.
“When I saw Khabib flying through the fence, I thought: 'It's not possible! This isn't happening… It was supposed to be the biggest night in UFC history, I couldn't be more disappointed,'” said the president.
The confusion was so great that Dana White did not hand over the belt to Khabib in the Octagon for fear of the audience throwing beer glasses at the Octagon. The official announcement of the winner was made by Bruce Buffer, but without either fighter present in the Octagon.
Not to just stay in the 'tragedy' camp, UFC 229 is, to this day, the best-selling event in the organization's history with 2,4 million pay-per-views purchased by MMA fans.
