Recently inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame, Wanderlei Silva took the opportunity to reconcile with the past. In an interview with ESPN, the former fighter admitted to having been 'ungrateful' towards Dana White and the organization, acknowledging his mistakes and apologizing for the controversies that marked the end of his career in the organization.

“The titles are given by the fans. Your career, your performance puts you in your place. It was really a surprise to be nominated. I hadn't talked to him (Dana White). Afterwards I talked and apologized publicly. I said I made a mistake, I was a controversial fighter in the end, I behaved badly. I made a lot of money in the UFC. To put it bluntly, I was ungrateful to turn against the hand that fed me. I think you make a mistake, anyone can. As long as you recognize your mistake, you know you made a mistake, apologize and move on,” said Wanderlei.

Professional in MMA between 1996 and 2018, Wanderlei Silva is considered one of the main responsible for the dissemination of sport in the world. Among his most notable achievements are the middleweight title in the now-defunct PRIDE and winning the Grand Prix in the category in 2003.

After stints in other organizations, Wanderlei arrived at the UFC in 2007, where he became one of the most popular fighters in history. In the company, the Brazilian faced legendary names like Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Chuck Liddell, starring in epic battles that left a lasting impression on fans.
