“After the fight against Poirier my fists were hurting. Several things were hurting. Let's take some time. Everything is healing little by little, but my hand continues to bother me. An MRI recently confirmed that I have a partial ligament tear. Let's see if I can recover. If not, I may even have to undergo surgery”, said the champion.
Islam makhachev, who won the belt against Charles of the Bronx No. UFC 280, in 2022, in Abu Dhabi, and defended the title for the second time against Alexander Volkanovsky, at UFC 294, last year, also in the Emirati capital, admits that he could miss the UFC 308, in which it is speculated that he would defend the lightweight throne in rematch against Arman Tsarukyan.
“It is questionable (if I will fight in the UFC 308). We haven't even talked about this fight yet. I'm doing rehab every day. Let's see how this hand turns out. I really want to return to fighting before the end of the year. That's what I plan. For now I'm not even thinking about not fighting, but I want to get in shape, prepared so that nothing bothers me. Before the last fight I had some small injuries that accumulated. I want to give my body a try to recover”, he concluded.
