The long-awaited fight between Alex Poatán e Magomed Ankalayev for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg.) UFC appears to have undergone a reversal. In an interview with 'Sport 24', Rizvan Magomedov, the Russian's manager, revealed that the organization has different plans for the Brazilian and that his fighter already has another fight scheduled.
“I believe this fight should happen in early 2025. This fight definitely needs to happen. I agree with you, Magomed Ankalayev he should only fight for the title. From what I understand, the organization has slightly different plans for Alex Pereira. To avoid becoming stagnant, we already have a date and a fight. There will be an announcement soon about when Magomed Ankalayev will fight,” said Magomedov.

The businessman's statement took MMA fans by surprise, as the fight between Poatan and Ankalaev was considered the next fight for the category's belt. In fact, there were rumors that the fight would be held at Madison Square Garden, in November, as the co-main fight of the superfight between Jon Jones e Stipe Miocic.
With the new information, Alex's future becomes uncertain. The current light heavyweight champion was previously middleweight champion and has plans to move up to the heavyweight division. Tom aspinall, holder of the interim heavyweight belt, is one of the names tipped to be the Brazilian's next opponent.
