Despite the tireless search for the UFC middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg), Robert whittaker admits he has one more plan in mind before getting the opportunity to face the champion: ruining the UFC's plans. Aware that the organization values Khamzat Shimaev, the Australian admitted that he asked to face the star in order to prevent the 'Wolf' from rising in the division.
“Chimaev is a difficult fight, he obviously broke expectations there in Abu Dhabi. I think the story of the UFC is that they want to see Chimaev getting a title shot or Chimaev at the top of the shelf, they want him in that picture. But I love destroying his plans, that's why I took the fight. I asked for the fight right after my last one (UFC Saudi Arabia). I saw that there would be an event in Abu Dhabi in October and I think it would fit very well. I said I would fight Chimaev, so we could do it again. I look for difficult fights and I know that if I beat Chimaev, there will be nothing in front of me to get the belt”, said Robert on his channel YouTube.
