Known for his journey of ups and downs in the UFC, Neil Magny seems to have found himself on the path towards the welterweight belt (up to 77,1kg.). Currently ranked 12th in the rankings and coming off a victory over the organization's promise, the fighter revealed that he was inspired by Glover Teixeira to not give up on achieving his dream title fight, despite being 37 years old.
“I have the opportunity to go there and show them (UFC) that I am still capable of being one of the best guys in the world. Realistically, I have to look at what some of the guys have done before. Look at guys like Glover Teixeira and that kind of thing. Glover Teixeira not only did he manage to be competitive until he was in his early forties, but he also won a belt at 42”, declared Magny in an interview with MMANews.

As he continued his speech, Neil reinforced that he does not enter the octagon betting on luck, but rather on his competitiveness against his opponents.
“So when I look at the guys in MMA in terms of longevity, I'm not just looking at the guys who were able to just show up to fight and flip a coin, 'Maybe I'll win, maybe I'll lose.' I'm looking at the guys who were able to compete at a high level. Glover Teixeira, Randy Couture, these guys are real examples of guys who managed to be successful and very competitive until they were forty. For me, that's my standard. These are the guys who have done it before, who have shown us that it can be done,” he concluded.
Scheduled to appear in the Octagon on August 24, Magny is preparing to face another prospect in the division: Michael Morales. In 32 appearances in the UFC, the American triumphed in 22.
