Amid intense preparation for the UFC 305, where he defends his middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg.) against Israel adesanya, Dricus du Plessis revealed a peculiar detail of his training that has generated curiosity in the world of MMA. Under the command of Morne Visser, leader of Team CIT MMA, the South African has been subjected to an unconventional training method: electric shocks.
In a video released by the UFC, Visser demonstrates how he uses an electric shock device to 'correct' his pupils' mistakes during training. The scene, which shows the coach applying shocks to the soles of Dricus' feet, caused astonishment and sparked debates about the limits of a high-level athlete's physical and mental preparation.

Visser justifies the use of the equipment as a way to keep his fighters alert and focused during training. According to him, the method is an effective tool for improving the performance of his athletes.
“If he's not fully alert, if he's not keeping his hands up or he's not shooting when he should, then I'll use it to correct him,” explains the coach.
Dricus, in turn, seems to approve of the unusual technique. The practice, however, is considered controversial and raises questions about the safety of athletes. In Brazil, for example, the use of electric shock devices is restricted to civil and military entities.
“It’s much better than a mental note. There's something about Morne. There is no single person capable of preparing me for a fight better than him”, says the champion.
