The rivalry between the fighters was evident from the beginning. Merab was not intimidated and provoked one of O'Malley's trainers, creating great tension in the octagon. The American, in turn, sought to maintain his distance and connect precise blows.
The duel was marked by an intense takedown game, with Dvalishvili dominating much of the time on the ground. The Georgian tried several times to finish the fight with a guillotine, but O'Malley narrowly escaped.
In the last round, Sean still had a chance to turn the game around. A strong kick to the waistline shook Merab, who, however, showed incredible resilience and managed to recover. The Georgian secured the victory by unanimous decision of the judges and became the new UFC bantamweight champion.
