Diego Lopes confirms he will be a reserve for the title fight between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway

The long-awaited opportunity to fight for the featherweight belt (up to 65,7 kg) could arrive even sooner than expected. Diego lopes expected. Last Saturday (28), the Brazilian based in Mexico announced, through a post on social media, that he was officially chosen as a reserve for the belt dispute between Ilia Topuria e Max Holloway, who face each other in the main fight of the UFC 308, on October 26, in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.

“Officially reserve for the title fight on October 26th. See you in Abu Dhabi,” wrote the fighter.

This means that if something prevents the champion or challenger from performing at the event, Diego lopes will automatically be chosen as a replacement for the main fight.

At 29, Diego lopes currently occupies third place in the featherweight rankings, behind the two involved in the title dispute. UFC 308 and the former champion Alexander Volkanovsky. The Brazilian reached his current position after defeating the former title challenger Brian ortega on the main card of UFC 303, held on September 14th at 'Esfera'.

Diego made his UFC debut in May 2023, losing to the undefeated Movsar Evloev in a fight accepted days in advance. Since then, the Brazilian has lined up six opponents.
