Alex Poatan reveals difficulties with the altitude in Salt Lake City and details preparation for UFC 307

Alex Poatán defends the title again in the main fight of the UFC 307. The Brazilian, who is the light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg), faces Khalil rountree next Saturday (5), in the city of Salt Lake City. However, to keep the belt, the São Paulo native needs to overcome the difficulties of fighting at an altitude of 1.300 meters above sea level.

Preparation for the altitude of Salt Lake City has been adjusted to improve performance. In an interview with YouTube channel 'The Schmo', Alex explained the differences in training to better adapt to local conditions.

“It’s really good. We arrived three weeks before the fight, last time we arrived only two weeks before. This time, it’s been better. It’s really loud, even my throat, now with this dry air, has felt a little different. It’s made it a little difficult to breathe,” revealed the Brazilian.

In training, Poatan guarantees to be in excellent shape. With the help of Sean Strickland and Cesinha Almeida, the champion reinforces that, despite the challenge of altitude, he is ready for another high-level performance.

Altitude is nothing new for Poatan

The altitude of Salt Lake City (USA) is no longer news to Alex Poatán. On his first visit to the city, in UFC 291, the light heavyweight champion took on the challenge and emerged victorious in his debut in the up to 93 kg category.

On that occasion, he defeated the Polish Jan Błachowicz by split decision, after a three round battle extremely disputed. Now, in UFC 307, Poatan returns to the city with the responsibility of defending his belt.

Since his victory over Błachowicz in Salt Lake City, Poatan has continued to perform impressively in the light heavyweight division. He won the belt by defeating Jiri Prochazka and has already defended the title twice with authority.

Alex knocked out Jamahal hill in his first defense and then defeated Prochazka again to solidify his status as the division's top name and No. 2 in the UFC's pound-for-pound rankings.
