Israel Adesanya breaks silence and reveals mistake that cost him UFC title: 'It was my fault'

Nigerian detailed the moment that culminated in his defeat at UFC 305 and expressed his desire to fight in the coming months

Without fighting since August 17th, Israel adesanya opened up about the defeat suffered by Dricus du Plessis No. UFC 305. The Nigerian, who had been through a period of ups and downs in his career, took responsibility for the setback and revealed a crucial error in the final moments of the fight.

Although the Nigerian was competitive in the main event of the UFC 305, in the second half of the fourth round, Du Plessis landed a series of blows, followed by a takedown and finally finished with a rear naked choke. In an interview with the YouTube channel 'Adam Carolla Show', 'The Last Stylebender' described a mistake he made moments before his opponent's submission.

“I did something and slipped. So I pointed to the ground and said, ‘It wasn’t you, it was the ground,’ and at that moment, I shouldn’t have pointed to the ground… He took advantage of that,” said the former champion.

Despite the mistake costing him the title, Adesanya assured that he was not attached to the result of the fight and that he had fun in the duel.

“Look, that’s the game. I messed up, it was my fault, but I wasn’t really attached to the outcome. I just wanted to show what I can do. I really wanted to be in a fight, and it was a good fight. I had fun,” he recalled.

Despite not having a fight scheduled, Israel adesanya is in a hurry to return to the octagon. The Nigerian said he wants to have one more fight this year or early next year.

“Even if I don’t have the belt, they still say my name. I’m still the Israel adesanya. Right now, I want to fight one more time before the end of this year or early next year. But I don’t know yet. I’m just training, building on where we left off, and I’ll get the call with some options at some point. I’m sure Dana (White) will reach out. I can’t wait to do it again, against who? We’ll find out,” the fighter added.

Despite going through the most difficult moment of his career, with only one victory in the last four fights, Adesanya is ranked second and was recently challenged by Caio Borralho. In his career, at 35 years old, the former champion has a record of 24 positive results and four negative ones.
