“I think because Stipe is so legendary. I mean, the guy is one of the best heavyweights of all time. So I think this is the challenge that Jon needs. There’s always going to be young guys coming up, there’s always going to be a new phenom, but the attraction here is that it’s two legends fighting each other.”

Jackson noted that Jones, the light heavyweight champion for more than a decade and now the heavyweight king, no longer needs to prove himself against any competitor. Miocic's choice is not motivated by rankings or pressure, but by the importance of legacy.

“At this point in Jon’s career, he doesn’t need to fight; he could stop today and he’d be fine. But I think it motivates him for Stipe. The idea of Stipe and how big he is, and how tough he is, and competing against that. I think he’s going for something that’s legacy-related, in my opinion,” Jackson concluded.

Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic

The fight between Jones and Miocic was originally scheduled for UFC 295, in November 2023, but was postponed after a chest injury to keep Jones out of the Octagon. Now, the heavyweight champion, who won the title by submitting Cyryl Gane No. UFC 285, returns to the cage in UFC 309, scheduled for November 16th in New York (USA), where he faces Stipe Miocic.
