A new wave of cuts in the UFC roster has arrived. The organization fired 10 athletes this Thursday (12), including the Brazilian Kleydson Rodrigues. The layoffs were announced on the 'UFC Roster Watch' page, which monitors hiring and firings promoted by the Ultimate.

The list is headed by Ovince saint preux. In the UFC since 2013, the 41-year-old Haitian has 45 fights and has faced Jon Jones e Mauritius Shogun. Against Bones, ST.Preux lost by unanimous decision after lasting five rounds at UFC 197. Against the Brazilian, in UFC 274, the veteran won by split decision of the judges, in a confrontation marked by boos, due to the lack of combativeness on the part of the athletes.

The Brazilian Kleydson Rodrigues also joins the 'boat'. The flyweight fighter (up to 56,7 kg) from Laranjal do Jari, in Amapá, has not won since February 2023, when he beat the Australian Shannon Ross, in a knockout after just 59 seconds. Since then he has lost two fights, to Farid Basharat and Alatengheili.

Another interesting name on this list is Karl Williams. Some fans criticized UFC brass for abandoning Williams, who was 3-0 in the promotion before losing a unanimous decision to Jonathan Diniz.

Dana says cuts have nothing to do with pay

There’s usually a bit of controversy within the MMA community whenever roster cuts are made. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dana White told reporters that even during the lockdown, roster cuts were never about fighter pay.

PUBLICITY:

“We’ve been making these same changes every weekend for 20 years. We haven’t done it in the last few months. It has nothing to do with fighter pay or anything else. It just hasn’t been done in a few months during the pandemic. If I was trying to save money, I would be laying off employees like every other company in America right now. That’s how you save money during something like this. I have honored all fighter contracts and have not laid off any employees during this pandemic,” White said at the time.
