Defeated in an overwhelming way by Ilia Topuria, Max Holloway may have been far from the dream of reclaiming the featherweight belt (up to 65,7 kg), but, for Michael Bisping, it's not the end of the line for the Hawaiian. On his YouTube channel, the Englishman advised the 'BMF' champion to change categories, face big names and start a new race for the title.
On his 'Believe You Me' podcast, Bisping suggested that Holloway had his moment of dominance in the featherweight division, but that now, due to his age and physical demands, it is becoming increasingly difficult to make that weight. As a result, Bisping advised the Hawaiian fighter to consider a permanent move to the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg), which he sees as a more viable and exciting option at this stage of his career.

“Time has passed. That ship has sailed: move on. You’re getting older. The weight cut is harder. You’ve had some losses. You almost became champion again. You performed amazingly against Justin gaethje. you absorbed his punches and knocked him out. You're ranked number five at lightweight. There are a lot of fun fights for you at 70 pounds," said the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9 pounds).
To reinforce his point, Bisping listed possible opponents for Holloway in the lightweight division and highlighted that, as he currently occupies the fifth position in the ranking, one or two victories would be enough to earn a new opportunity to fight for the belt.
“There is the Dan Hooker, there's Poirier, there's Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, who, by the way, those three would all be rematches, which is amazing. There's no shortage of big fights for Holloway at lightweight. And given that he's already ranked No. 5, one or two fights and Max Holloway is fighting for the title. So it's far from over.” concluded the Englishman.
Holloway's lightweight record
In April 2019, Max Holloway was the featherweight champion and tried his luck at the interim lightweight title against Dustin poirier. On that occasion, the Hawaiian was defeated by unanimous decision. In his second stint in the division, five years later, Max knocked out Justin gaethje No. UFC 300 and won the 'BMF' belt.
