Despite being named as backup for Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic fight No. UFC 309, Tom aspinall has other reasons to be looking forward to the event, which takes place next Saturday (16). In an interview with 'TNT Sports', the Briton revealed that he has high expectations for the rematch between Charles of the Bronx e Michael chandler.
In the first fight between the lightweights (up to 70,3kg), Chandler came out on top in the opening minutes and almost knocked out the Brazilian in the first round. However, in the second round, Charles knocked the American down with a cross and achieved a historic comeback. Aspinall expects the rematch between them to be as exciting as the first fight.

“Put those two guys in there, close the Octagon doors, ring the bell, and it’s going to be pure chaos. I’m looking forward to being Octagon-side for that fight,” Aspinall said.
In his analysis for the fight, the Briton highlighted the impulsive and aggressive style of Michael chandler, who, according to him, ignores technique and goes straight to the attack, as if he were in a 'street fight'. Aspinall says that this way of fighting makes the American fun to watch, but frustrating to train.
“I think Mike Chandler, especially, has to be one of the most frustrating people to train with ever. Tactics when he fights just go out the window, and he just goes for it. Basically, it’s like he’s in a street fight with a pair of gloves on. It’s fantastic to watch. He just fights with pure aggression and athleticism, really. Obviously, he’s very technical, but he chooses not to use it, in a way. For me, sometimes I love the technique. I love the finesse of the fight. But sometimes, like anybody else, I just want to see a good fight. So this guy is entertainment every time,” explained the interim champion.
Charles of the Bronx e Michael chandler meet again in the octagon after more than three years. In the first confrontation between the fighters, the Brazilian won the lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg).
Aspinall, in turn, became interim champion in November 2023 by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich. Since then, he has defended his title once against Curtis blaydes and now awaits the opportunity to compete for the linear title against the winner of Jon Jones e Stipe Miocic, which are faced in the UFC 309, next Saturday (16).
