Fire in the playground! Or rather… flame! Known for his bold and often accurate guesses, the former UFC fighter and commentator Chael Sonnen believes he has a very intriguing choice for his next opponent. Alex Poatán: the interim heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg.) Tom aspinall. And he even has a date and location for the confrontation.
During a recent episode of the show Good Guy/Bad Guy da ESPN, commanded by the former champion Daniel Cormier, Sonnen shared his opinion on the path the Brazilian must take to become heavyweight champion, Jon Jones.

“I’ve always believed – and this is just a rumor, and I back it up with a little evidence – but I’ve always maintained that Pereira’s next fight will be against Aspinall, and it will be for the interim title. I even believe I know when it will be. I believe it will be mid-January in California.”UFC 311)”, Sonnen vented.
The former fighter said he had no inside information about what would happen after the UFC 309. That said, he believes a potential fight between Poatan and Aspinall will lead to a title unification showdown.
“I believe there will be a fight for both guys. I believe there will be a conversation, but not because they are next for the winner of Jones-Stipe. I think they will find a way to put the two together and the winner will face either Jones or Stipe. That is purely a rumor, but I am just offering it,” he concluded.
Is fighting possible?
Poatan has been trying to move up a weight division for some time now. The current UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg), the Brazilian has been 'suffering' from the attacks of Magomed Ankalayev, the number one contender to fight for the title against him. In turn, Poatan claims that the UFC does not want to schedule a title fight with the Russian because they consider his fighting style to be 'boring'. This has led many to wonder whether the Brazilian will try his luck in the heavyweight division.
The English Tom aspinall, in turn, is already in New York to the UFC 309 as a substitute if one of the two, Jon Jones ou Stipe Miocic, cannot fight. The event that puts the heavyweight belt at stake takes place next Saturday (16), at Madison Square Garden.
