Heavyweight title defense holder Stipe Miocic officially removed from UFC roster

At 42 years old, the American fighter of Croatian descent announced his retirement after losing to Jon Jones at UFC 309

It seems that goodbye to Stipe Miocic from the UFC has finally been formalized. This Thursday (5) the 'UFC Roster Tracker' account on 'X' (formerly Twitter) updated fans that the American of Croatian descent has been officially removed from the Ultimate roster. Unless he signs again with the organization, his retirement is set.

At 42 years old, Miocic announced his retirement after a defeat against Jon Jones in the main fight of UFC 309, last November. But he continues to work at his other job, with the Ohio Fire Department, USA. The fighter left the sport as the record holder for saves of the UFC heavyweight belt, with four successful defenses, three of them consecutive. The fighter, who for many is the greatest heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) in history, built a record of 20 wins and five losses.

Stipe Miocic He grew up playing sports, with a preference for baseball and wrestling, his first martial art, in which he competed in the first division of the NCAA. At the age of 23, a wrestling teammate took him to Strong Style MMA, a gym where he still trains today. He started practicing MMA, but found his main passion in boxing at the time and was the 'Golden Gloves' champion in Cleveland. From there, he went to MMA in a breeze. After scoring six consecutive knockouts in regional events, Miocic was signed by the UFC in 2011. He started with three straight wins, until suffering the first loss of his career at the hands of the 'giant' Stefan struveIn 2012.

After his first setback, Miocic would go on to lose another fight against the Brazilian. Junior Gypsy, in 2014. But it was against a Brazilian, on Brazilian soil, that the American became UFC champion. With a knockout over the then champion Fabricio Werdum at the Baixada Arena, in Curitiba.

Between 2016 and early 2018, Miocic broke the record for most heavyweight title defenses, defending the title consecutively against alistair overeem, Junior Gypsy e Francis Ngannou.
