Kamaru Usman did not react well to the statements of Ian Machado Garry about a possible fight between the athletes. Before his duel against Shavkat Rakhmonov, at UFC 310, the Irishman claimed that the former champion prevented the duel from being scheduled and insulted the Nigerian, calling him “big breast and small b****”.
On his Pound-for-Pound podcast, Usman was asked about the possibility of facing the Irishman in his next fight, which generated an angry reaction from the former UFC welterweight champion (up to 77kg).

“Does he really deserve it? What I’ll say is this: Before this fight, a lot of talk was made, he said a lot of things, ‘Everybody’s running away from me!’ I don’t run away from anybody. I don’t know many guys that are going to run away from anybody because that’s the game. We fight to make money. If we don’t fight, we don’t get paid. Anybody in the UFC has to step in the Octagon to get paid. The idea of ‘They were scared of me, they were running away.’ Who are you? Who are you that I, of all the guys, am scared of you?” Kamaru asked.
After Garry signed a contract to face Rakhmonov on three weeks' notice, the Irishman criticized fighters in the division for avoiding facing the Kazakh. In response, Usman promised that when he is ready to compete, he will accept any fight the UFC offers him.
“I think he was upset because he wanted me to be his last-minute replacement for his fight. Who the hell is this guy that I’m going to be his last-minute replacement? Like I said, the most important thing for me is just to get healthy. It doesn’t matter who it is. When I’m healthy and I feel like I’m ready to come back and do what I do, I don’t care. You can bring King Kong and King Kong’s brothers, if they can make 77 pounds, we’ll fight. So that’s it,” concluded the Nigerian.
Usman reigned over the welterweight division from 2019 until 2021, when he lost his title to Leon edwards. Currently, the Nigerian is experiencing the worst phase of his career, with three consecutive defeats, and there is no date set for his return.
