The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently announced that the main event of UFC 311 , the first numbered event of 2025, taking place on January 18th in California, will be between Islam Mackachev and Arman Tsarukyan . The rematch will be for the lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg), currently held by the fighter from Dagestan.
But a former belt holder will be watching the fight very closely. Former lightweight champion Charles do Bronx recently told TNT Sports that he plans to attend UFC 311 and even offered to serve as a reserve fighter for the event, should anything happen to Makhachev or Tsarukyan.

“I’ll be there even if I have to sit near the Octagon. If the UFC wants me [as a backup], why not? They have similar styles, I think Islam is a little bit ahead. I also think it’s going to be a very good fight, but for me, it doesn’t matter who wins. I’m next,” he said from the Bronxs.
The Brazilian, who holds the record for most submissions in the organization, is coming off a decision victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 309 , which took place last month in New York. Currently ranked second, "the Bronx" is seeking a rematch against whoever wins at UFC 311. Makhachev submitted the Brazilian at UFC 280 , while Tsarukyan managed to defeat "The Lion" via split decision at UFC 300.
