Former UFC welterweight champion (up to 77,1 lbs.), Kamaru Usman has an interesting opinion on the main fight matchup of the last UFC event in 2024. According to the Nigerian, Colby covington will have a difficult challenge ahead in the duel with Joaquin buckley, mainly due to uncertainty regarding the conditions of the former rival.
“Buckley is hungry, he’s aggressive, and he’s going to come out early. I worry about Covington’s inactivity. Such a long hiatus, it’s going to take him a while to get back into the rhythm he needs to. That’s the issue I see here. He’s also had another long period of inactivity since that fight. So I think it’s going to be a little tough for him moving forward,” the fighter said on the American podcast Pound 4 Pound, hosted by the fighter himself.

Despite this, the Nigerian Nightmare stated that the technical match against Buckley could be the best possible fight for the former interim champion of the category, so that he remains one of the main welterweights (up to 77,1 kg.) in the world.
“Buckley is not the kind of guy you just stand there with. He has to be able to get in contact with Buckley, use grappling and against the fence. Then you can really start to see if he makes it to the later rounds. If he’s still at that level and wants to stay at the top of the division, I think this is a good fight for him,” he concluded.
