Star of UFC Tampa, Colby covington did not miss the opportunity to provoke other big names in the organization. The American, who enters the octagon this Saturday (14) against Joaquin buckley, responded vehemently to the comments made by Islam makhachev, current lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg).
In an interview with 'MMA Guru', what really caught the eye in Covington's interview was his accusation that Makhachev and his mentor, the former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, had allegedly used anabolic steroids to achieve their victories. He claimed that the two Russian fighters did not face the 'natural challenges' of their divisions.

“They’re bullies. They didn’t want to fight at their weight class because they’re scared. They want to have a strength advantage on fight night. Everyone knows they’ve been drug tested. Their cousin Umar has been drug tested, and their cousin Usman has been drug tested in Bellator,” Colby said.
The provocative Covington is known for his controversial statements and sharp criticism, and this interview was no different. When talking about Makhachev and Khabib, he tried to question their victories, suggesting that their physical strength may be the result of the use of illicit substances.
“I weigh 180, 81,6 pounds max, but this guy (Makhachev) must weigh 182, 82,5 pounds, just like his little friend Khabib,” he said.
