Jamahal Hill decided to be transparent with his fans and followers by opening up about his loss to Alex Poatan at UFC 300 in April of this year. The former light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) faced the Brazilian with an unexpected burden: recovering from Achilles tendon surgery, something that, according to him, directly impacted his performance.

“I don’t like to blame injuries, but anyone who knows what Achilles surgery is like understands that it’s not like you’re back to your best after nine months. I bet on myself, I took the fight and I kept going. But honestly, I wasn’t 100 percent where I needed to be,” Jamahal said.

Jamahal Hill 's defeat wasn't just the end of the story. After the fight, which ended in a first-round knockout, the two exchanged barbs on social media and at the UFC Performance Center. In a tense moment, the UFC star challenged the American to a fight on the premises and even asked his opponent to 'put on the gloves'.

On January 18, 2024, at UFC 311 , Hill will have the opportunity to turn things around when he faces Jiri Prochazka in a fight that could put the former champion back on the path to a possible rematch against Poatan.
