The announcement of the possible fight brought a certain air of frustration to the fans, who were hoping to see Diego lopes fighting for the belt, which today belongs to Ilia Topuria, in his next match. The Brazilian was the immediate reserve in the title fight between Georgian-Spanish and Max Holloway, which happened in UFC 308, in October of last year. The fight was Topuria's first title defense, as he managed to knock out the Hawaiian in the third round.
Third place in the category ranking, Diego lopes comes riding a five-fight winning streak in the UFC. In 2024, the fighter scored three consecutive victories in a short space of five months, over Sodiq Yusuf, Dan Ige e Brian ortega.
Yes, Yair Rodriguez is not going through a good time in the organization. Number five in the featherweight rankings, the Mexican has suffered two consecutive defeats in the UFC, against the former champion Alexander Volkanovsky and para Brian ortega. The last time Rodriguez won was in February 2023, when he overcame Josh Emmett No. UFC 284.
