The coach of Umar Nurmagomedov, Javier Mendez, revealed that the Russian simply hid the broken hand of the team itself in UFC 311. He suffered the injury in the first round of the bantamweight title fight (up to 61,2 kg) against Merab Dvalishvili. The duel took place on Saturday (18), in Inglewood (USA), and the champion confirmed the maintenance of the belt by unanimous decision.

“If he had told me he broke his hand, I would have changed the game plan. Khabib and I would have changed the game plan completely because Khabib is a great corner. He’s one of the greats I’ve ever come across on the road. So we could have changed the game plan, but he didn’t tell us,” Mendez told 'Submission Radio'.

“Umar didn’t tell us. That just shows the kind of warrior he is. We would have changed the plan if he had told us that. Why would we have done what we did, making him fight with that broken hand, if we knew he had a broken hand? That would have been stupid,” the coach said.

The bantamweight title challenger (up to 61,2 kg.) did the same as his opponent. Merab Dvbalishvili also hid an injury. However, the champion hid an injury on his leg from the California Athletic Commission.

In an interview with journalist 'Ariel Helwani', Merab revealed that he feared being barred by the California Athletic Commission (CSAV) and resorted to an unorthodox attitude to be released.

“I was worried that the Commission wouldn’t let me fight… California has a very strict Commission… The Commission guy asked me to show my shin, so I lifted my left pant leg to show my shin. He kept talking and then asked me to show my other leg, so I showed my left leg again. He never knew about the injury,” Merab revealed in the 'The Ariel Helwani Show'.
