The rivalry between Alex Poatán e Dricus Du Plessis has generated a lot of speculation behind the scenes at UFC, and now, the controversy has taken on new contours with the words of Chael Sonnen. The former fighter and commentator believes that the feud between the champions may be more complex than it seems. His theory? What the Brazilian feels for the South African is not something that arose from a fight, but rather after long observation.

“I wonder what Dricus du Plessis “What did it do to piss off Alex [Poatan] to this extent? But once it was said, I had some thoughts. I don’t think it’s a first-hand thing. If it was, Dricus and Alex would have told us by now… I think it’s a second-hand thing, I think Alex has observed Dricus and that’s where the hate comes from,” Sonnen said on his show ‘The Bad Guy’.
With a fight scheduled to face Magomed Ankalayev No. UFC 313, on March 8, the current light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) has shown himself increasingly willing to drop down a category to face the South African.
Poatan has already confirmed his presence in the corner of Sean Strickland, former opponent and now friend, in the main fight for the middleweight belt (up to 83,9 kg) next Saturday (8).
Is Alex Poatan 'angry' with Dricus du Plessis?
The tension between the two champions was also fueled by statements from Sean Strickland. In an interview with 'UFC News', the American, who has already shared the octagon with Poatan, revealed that the Brazilian has an 'inexplicable anger' towards Du Plessis.
“Alex is an angry motherfucker. Like, Alex is angry, and for some reason, man, he hates Dricus. Like, I don’t know what you did to him, but he f***ing hates you, man. Sometimes the way he looks at Dricus, I’m like, ‘Man, I’m the one who’s gonna fight him, bro. I’m the one, man!’ He just has this hatred in his heart,” Strickland said.
